Limblog Design Tour – The Yuppie Edition

I spent last week in Belgium, where I was invited by Christiaan and Christophe from creative agency Comosie for a blog tour of the Limburg area in the Belgian lowlands. It was my first time in Belgium, so I didn’t know quite what to expect, but was positively surprised by the creativity and entrepreneurship buzzing everywhere in these small towns. It felt like both the politicians and the locals were all actively engaged in promoting and supporting the design scene here, and I would have never expected there to be so many established brands and companies as well as up and coming designers and artists in an area where the biggest towns has a population of merely 70 000 people. I’ll tell you more about what we saw, who we met and were we were soon, but first up; a hotel experience inspired by the yuppie era!

During our four day tour, we stayed at four very different hotels, all belonging to the small boutique hotel chain Different Hotels. The first was an old monastery from the 11th century, with amazing high ceilings and huge rooms. The second, a beautiful old castle. The third, a modern building in the center of Genk, and the last one, super cool and completely crazy YUP in Hasselt, with a concept designed by Creneau International. Think dark walls, marble bathrooms with black details, mixed with 80’s bling, lots of attitude and banana patterned carpets… And you could have sushi for breakfast, yay!
